Privacy Policy

Who this policy is from

This Privacy Policy explains how Harmonoise (the website at harmonoise.com) handles information when you visit the site or use its browser-based audio tools. It is written in plain language and describes the site's actual behavior rather than an aspirational minimum.

Harmonoise does not operate user accounts, does not process payments, and does not build user profiles for marketing. The only personal data received directly by Harmonoise is whatever you choose to send by email. Separately, the site loads Google Analytics and Google AdSense, which receive their own limited information as described below.

What happens inside each tool

The actual audio tools — noise generator, guitar tuner, BPM tapper, frequency generator, metronome — run locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Specifically:

  • Microphone input used by the guitar tuner is analyzed in your browser and is not recorded, stored, or uploaded. You can revoke microphone permission at any time through your browser settings.
  • Generated audio (noise, test tones, metronome clicks) is produced locally by your device. Nothing is uploaded for processing.
  • Tool settings such as theme, last-used BPM, or volume may be written to your browser's Local Storage so the site can remember them across visits. Local Storage stays on your device and is not sent to any server.

Information collected by Harmonoise directly

Harmonoise itself collects very little information:

  • Server logs: the hosting provider may log standard request information such as IP address, user agent, referring page, and timestamp. These logs are used to operate the site and diagnose problems, and are retained only for as long as the hosting provider retains them by default.
  • Email you send: if you email hello@harmonoise.com, the message, your email address, and any information you include are received through the email provider. These messages are kept only as long as needed to respond and keep a reasonable support record.

Harmonoise does not ask you to fill in contact forms, does not collect names, does not sell personal information, and does not attempt to identify individual visitors.

Google Analytics

The site loads Google Analytics (measurement ID G-9L6JR4H0K1) on every page. Analytics is used to understand which tools are used, how many people visit, how pages perform, and whether anything is broken. Google Analytics may set cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id> and collect information including:

  • The pages you visit and the order in which you visit them.
  • Approximate geographic region (usually city-level, derived from IP address).
  • Device information such as browser, operating system, screen size, and language.
  • Referring URL (the page that linked to Harmonoise).
  • Aggregated session metrics such as time on page and bounce rate.

Harmonoise does not share Google Analytics data with advertisers, does not import audience lists, and does not link Analytics data to personal identifiers. You can opt out of Google Analytics in several ways, including installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, using your browser's cookie controls, or blocking third-party requests with an ad/tracker blocker.

Google AdSense and advertising

Harmonoise participates in Google AdSense. This means Google, as a third-party vendor, may serve ads on the site. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. The AdSense disclosure required by Google's program policies is included here:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's previous visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings.
  • Users who do not want personalized advertising from any participating vendor can also visit aboutads.info (United States) or youronlinechoices.com (European Economic Area) to opt out.
  • For more about how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Harmonoise does not control which specific ads are shown, does not receive the personal data Google uses to target them, and does not endorse any advertiser. Clicking an ad will take you to a third-party site whose own privacy practices apply.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses cookies from Google Analytics and Google AdSense as described above, and uses Local Storage to remember UI preferences. A detailed category-by-category breakdown, with names and opt-out links, is provided in the Cookie Policy.

Other third-party services

  • Google (Analytics & AdSense): pages request scripts and ad content from googletagmanager.com, google-analytics.com, pagead2.googlesyndication.com, and related domains. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Hosting provider: the site is served by a standard static-hosting provider, which may log request metadata as described above.
  • Email provider: email sent to hello@harmonoise.com is received through a standard email service.

No other third-party trackers, social widgets, CDNs for library code, or external fonts are loaded.

Legal bases (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction with comparable rules, the legal bases Harmonoise relies on are:

  • Legitimate interest for basic server logs, security, and aggregate analytics that help operate and improve the site.
  • Consent for advertising cookies and any personalized advertising, where consent is required. Where a consent signal is present (for example through your browser's Global Privacy Control or a regional consent prompt), Harmonoise will respect it and instruct Google AdSense to serve non-personalized ads.
  • Performance of a request when you email Harmonoise and expect a reply.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding personal data:

  • The right to know what personal data is processed about you.
  • The right to access, correct, or delete that data.
  • The right to object to or restrict certain processing, including targeted advertising.
  • The right to data portability, where it applies.
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. Harmonoise does not sell personal information in the ordinary sense, and treats opt-out signals (such as Global Privacy Control) accordingly for advertising.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@harmonoise.com. Please include enough detail to identify the request (for example, the approximate date and pages visited, or the email thread you'd like deleted).

Children's privacy

Harmonoise is not directed at children under 13, and the site does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information — for example, by emailing the support address — please contact Harmonoise and that information will be removed.

Data retention

  • Server logs: retained only as long as the hosting provider retains them by default.
  • Email correspondence: retained only as long as needed to answer and keep a reasonable support record, typically no more than two years unless a longer period is required by law.
  • Google Analytics data: retention is configured at the Analytics property level and managed by Google.
  • Local Storage (preferences): stored on your device until you clear browser data for this site.

Security

Harmonoise is served over HTTPS so the connection between your browser and the site is encrypted. The site is a static site with no server-side user data store, which keeps the attack surface small. Where third-party services are used (Google, email provider, hosting provider), their own security practices apply.

International transfers

Google's services operate globally and may process data in the United States and other countries. Google publishes its own safeguards for international transfers, which you can read in Google's Privacy Policy linked above.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the site, the tools it uses, or applicable law. When it changes, the "Last reviewed on" date at the top of the page is updated and the og:updated_time meta tag is refreshed. Significant changes that affect your rights will be called out at the top of the page for a reasonable period after they are made.

Privacy contact

Questions, corrections, or data requests can be sent to hello@harmonoise.com. Please include "Privacy" in the subject so messages can be handled quickly.
